Resident's fees are regulated by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing. All residents in aged care pay a standard Basic Daily Fee. Anyone entering a government subsidised Aged Care facility has to be assessed by an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) to determine whether they go into a low-level care facility known as a hostel or a high-level care nursing home. Once the level of care is determined, the search begins to find the best facility for your loved one. This can be a confusing time when thinking about which facility is most suitable and working out the costs involved. Very often, the problem may be that you are not aware of just what help and support is available and how to access it.
